At the end, participants asked that notes from the session be made available on the Foundation’s website. You can take a look at them here.

Providing comfort with music

For over six years now, Kirsten Davis, a registered music therapist, has provided comfort to palliative care patients through SPH’s music therapy program. This is a programme that is funded entirely through the generosity of our donors, who include Peninsula Singers and the Order of St. Lazarus. Music therapy is one of those rare treatments that engages all aspects of a person: the social, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual. It distracts patients from pain that is sometimes unrelenting, relaxes them when stress and fear become overwhelming, and can ease their passing in ways difficult to describe. It provides an important balance to medical treatment. Kirsten gives voice to the songs that are meaningful to patients, helping to ease their pain. And for that, she is also an angel for many of the palliative care patients at SPH.
