Two Donors… One Goal

Both from military backgrounds and in their nineties, how do Edith Struthers and Peter Chance differ and what else do they have in common?

As a point of departure, which their names would indicate, Edith is female and Peter is male. But when it comes to their charitable giving, both Edith and Peter support the Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Foundation as long-term volunteers and donors (Edith giving monthly and Peter annually), and via planned giving, with both having arranged legacy gifts.

Asked about her motivation for her multiple forms of support, Edith noted that she can’t imagine her community without its hospital, so wants to help keep it close by for a long time to come. For Peter, it’s a matter of total respect for the skill and dedication of both Hospital and Foundation personnel that prompts him to continue support of his community hospital.

And, for them both, “going public” with their giving, both current and future, makes perfect sense, hoping they might prompt others to do the same – to ensure quality community health care well into the future.
