Sunday August 30 – 1pm start time.

Location: Takes place across the Saanich Peninsula.

What?

We are living through very challenging times, but despite that – and also because of it – the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation (SPHHF) has created a special socially distanced event. In the current situation, we had no choice but to cancel The Q!’s Bed Races On Beacon in its normal form. But we couldn’t let this year pass without doing something else to come together, have some fun and do some good! It will combine community spirit, joyful pageantry, gritty athleticism and downright quirkiness.

Part Amazing Race, part Scavenger Hunt, part car rally and tons of fun! Can you go the social distance?

Here’s how it works…

  • Register to join our race. (Your $50 registration fee for your team of up to 6 is tax-deductible and counts towards your overall fundraising goal.)
  • Personalize your fundraiser page with your picture, your own words, and a fundraising goal. Make the goal a stretch! Fundraising is not mandatory but it is fun and will help our hospital & healthcare.
  • Involve your friends and family by RSVPing to our Facebook event and sharing your personal fundraiser page via social media, email, or a good old-fashioned telephone call.
  • Get your team ready… There’s a wonderful prize for the best team spirit and costumes are part of this! Have fun!
  • … And go! On August 28th we will email you your special starting point for the Amazing Scavenger Race. Show up at 1pm August 30th.
  • Bask in the satisfaction that COVID-19 didn’t keep you from supporting your Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
  • Safety First! All aspects of the event will be in accordance with all Social Distance Measures put in place by Vancouver Island Health Authority.

Each team who wins in each of these three categories will win a prize package from businesses around the Peninsula

  1. The winner of the race – The Golden Bedpan Award!
  2. Community Heroes – Top fundraiser – teams are highly encouraged to fundraise for the hospital
  3. Team spirit – A panel of special judges will vote on best team spirit (including costume). Judges votes are “bribable” by donation.

Yes, you can help. Donate today!

Support your favourite team.

Why?

The beds in Long-term Care are over 20 years old. They are heavy and hard for healthcare workers to move around. The steel open framing has also been known to cause injuries on rare occasions. The Amazing Scavenger Hunt will be raising money to buy a new bed! They cost $10,000. Together we can buy a new bed

Be creative! Whatever you can do to raise money and awareness while keeping with Health Authority orders in place and having fun.
