Celebrate the Harvest
On Saturday, September 23rd, Celebrate the Harvest at Firbank Farm! Firbank Farm carries a history rooted in family, farming, community and giving back. Long-time Proud Supporters, Firbank Farm owners Lorne Jack, and daughter, Diane Williamson, are excited to be hosting this annual, family-fun event in their 30th year of being on the Peninsula. Diane’s son, Connor originally came up with the idea for “Celebrate the Harvest” approximately 13 years ago, where decorated pumpkins were offered for sale and proceeds generously donated to the Foundation. Building on her brother’s idea, sister Mackenzie thought it would be wonderful to welcome children – of all ages – to the farm to decorate pumpkins, have some fun, play games and learn more about farming. Over the years, “Celebrate the Harvest” has grown into a Peninsula favourite, hosting approximately 400 children. For a donation, anyone can decorate a pumpkin and participate in all the Firbank Farm activities! If you are unable to attend this event, you can still show your support by donating to SPHHF online or contacting our office. Funds raised for this year’s “Celebrate the Harvest” are generously being donated to the Extended Care Unit’s Music Therapy program.

Jeannette Allan Swim for Life
Jeannette Allan is organizing a fundraiser called Swim For Life to raise funds for Saanich Peninsula Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit in support of her friend who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As Jeannette’s friend lives abroad and Jeannette is unable to assist her as much as she would like to in person, she decided to coordinate this fundraiser as a way to help. Jeannette is an avid swimmer who has swum in open water several times in the US, and she thought it fitting to do a long-distance swim in honour of her friend.
The event will take place on Saturday, August 19th, with Jeannette entering the water from Whisky Point, a beach due east of Mill Bay Marina at 8:45 am and expects to arrive at Downey Beach in Deep Cove at 1 pm.
Over the past few months, Jeannette has been training for this swim and is so happy that the weather and tides are working in her favour. The eagles, seals and other wildlife have joined her along the way, and we hope you will too. If you would like to join Jeannette during her swim by either swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, etc., you can do so for a minimum donation of $60. To register or for more information, please contact Jeannette directly by email at Jeannette.allan@gmail.com.
A big thanks to Mill Bay Marine Group and everyone at Blue Dog Kayaking for their support and for donating their rental proceeds during the swim. Also, a shout out to Pam at Blue Jellyfish SUP for her support, too!
