We can’t ride together this year due to physical distancing requirements but we still want you to ride in memory of Denis, and to raise funds for our Palliative Care Unit.

Let’s remember Denis – a father and friend from our community, and a passionate bike rider. You could take a selfie from your ride and share it with us!

Due to Covid-19, we invite people to either ride solo, or with others in their respective family bubble and to complete any of the three recommended distances by May 30, 2021:

  • Beginner – 40km
  • Intermediate – 80km
  • Advanced – 100km

Participants can choose to ride on a safe route of their choice on the road, or use the Galloping Goose or Lochside Trail.   Alternatively, participants can choose to Mountain Bike at available public areas in the area such as Hartland or Bear Mountain.  This is a self-managed ride and participants are required to obey the rules of the road or trails at all times and ultimately take responsibility for choosing an appropriate route or distance.

Denis Muloin was a passionate advocate for cycling in our community, and many will remember him as the manager of Sidney’s Russ Hays bike store. Denis died in 2014 after a long battle with cancer. His last months were spent at the Palliative Care unit at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. The wonderful care that he received at SPH hasn’t been forgotten by his friends and family who were impressed by the caring staff, community atmosphere and the ease of having the facility so close to home. Thanks to their support a lovely sunroom was created in the Palliative Unit at SPH and the annual Bike Ride was organised to keep Denis’s memory alive, and raise funds to continue supporting the Unit.
