We’re changing, for the health of our community
After thinking deeply about what the best health care looks like now, the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation has decided to expand our mission. To reflect this we are changing our name, to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation. Our vision and goals remain the same: to be the champion of the best possible and most compassionate health care for every person in the community.
Times have changed
Since 1985, when the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation was created, a lot has changed. Today the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, due to incredible donor support, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Unfortunately though, the community is now seeing significant gaps in health care on the peninsula; many of which are created or exacerbated by the current shortage of family physicians.
Doctor shortages
We see it at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, when patients wait for hours to be seen in the Emergency Room. We’ve been seeing it in the struggle to keep family physicians engaged in delivering hospital services. The Saanich Peninsula employs a rural medical model, which means that the physicians in the community also staff the hospital (with the exception of the Operating Rooms). Doctor shortages in the community threaten the survival of the hospital.
The Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation wants to enable access to healthcare services throughout the Peninsula and Southern Gulf Islands communities for every resident. We want to help in the efforts to recruit new doctors to family practice and hospital service.
How will the change affect my donations?
You have trusted us to be responsible with your gifts. If you want a donation to go to a specific cause, whether in the hospital or in the community, we will work to make that happen. Your passion is our passion, and we will always honour your wishes.
