Our Story
In 1985, a group of concerned citizens came together to raise funds for the fledgling Saanich Peninsula Hospital, a full service community hospital serving over 30,000 households on the Saanich Peninsula and Gulf Islands. These visionary members of our community created an independent charity to respond to the rising cost of delivering quality healthcare to residents of the Saanich Peninsula and Gulf Islands.
Since its formation, the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation has raised almost $70 million dollars for equipment, facilities and programs at the hospital.
The Foundation
We consist of 12 Directors, elected by the membership of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation. It employs a full-time President & CEO and a small team of full-time and part-time support staff. Our main office is in the hospital and this affords the staff and directors an up-close look at the work and needs of the facility. The Annual Campaign has been an important part of our fundraising program. It has traditionally been carried out through a direct mail appeal to households in the last quarter of the calendar year. Each year the Foundation directors have chosen a project (equipment or facility redevelopment) as the fundraising target.
