Without your support,
we would not be able to help the thousands of community members who look to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation to champion improved healthcare.
This section is dedicated to all of the donors, volunteers, sponsors and community partners – your peers – who give kindly of their time and money to support the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation. Each has a unique story and relationship with the Foundation, and we are honoured to consider them partners as we continue to promote healthcare excellence for the Saanich Peninsula and Southern Gulf Island communities.
There are so many ways you can get involved with the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation. Love to volunteer? Join us for one of our exciting annual events, or even help around our offices. Do you want your community to understand your business’ commitment to corporate social responsibility? Sponsor an event through our Commerce for Care program, or even consider creating a Corporate Matching Gift program to bolster your own staff’s philanthropic efforts.
We are always excited to collaborate with businesses and individuals who have great ideas and a passion for making a difference. Please consider becoming a stakeholder of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation to support our efforts to keep the landscape of healthcare on the peninsula vibrant.
Commerce
For Care
Corporate donations help take the pressure off Foundation operating costs. Whether sponsoring our Summer Student Co-op Program, a bursary for one of the hospital staff, a trial of new, leading-edge technology or creating and sponsoring a project as unique as your business, a partnership in our Commerce for Care Program is an investment that will make a big impact.
Legacy Giving
from the Heart
Former SPHHF Executive Director Karen Morgan tells us why she believes in planned giving.
After talking to donors for 20 years, I know that some want to have an immediate impact; others want to leave a longer-lasting imprint on their favourite charity.
I’m also a donor. I give a monthly gift, but I’m also a bequest donor to my university and the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. Giving to annual campaigns, through either a one-time or monthly gift allows SPHHF to meet immediate, specific goals such as building new operating rooms and putting new equipment in the hands of hospital staff and doctors. Legacy gifts are usually invested, providing long-term financial stability, and enabling the Foundation to weather the storms of economic downturns, when charitable donations can drop.
My decisions were easy: my undergraduate university changed my life, with its intimate learning environment. The Saanich Peninsula Hospital, as many of you know, has similar features. It’s warm and neighbourly, providing compassionate care to friends and family.
It was touching when my friend entered the Saanich Peninsula Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit with the attitude that her life might be coming to an end, but the party wasn’t. Hospital staff supported her and tolerated much: there was the day 15 members of her extended family participated in a sing-a-long with the music therapist. Later she hosted a slumber party with her nieces. Then, even later, she decided that her life was going to end at home. Hospital staff helped her source equipment and supplies.
Most donors make gifts from the heart – mine certainly are. They make me happy. It also doesn’t hurt that, according to recent research, giving reduces the odds of an early death by nearly 60%!
If you want to make a legacy gift to support the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, please talk to us and to your advisors. You don’t need to be wealthy to leave a legacy. In fact, a significant part of the Foundation’s capital fund comes from people who have lived quiet lives in relatively modest circumstances, but considered it important to leave a legacy. Such a gift can enable you to provide a larger donation, and receive significant tax savings for your estate. This means you can make a legacy gift, while ensuring the amount you wish to leave to your children and grandchildren is unchanged.

Donations of Shares
Donations of shares are the most attractive way (from a tax perspective) of expressing your support for the work of the Foundation. Be sure to talk to your Investment Advisor to get his or her opinion on the timing of any donation. To assist your broker in making any transaction, we have included a Donation of Shares form that can be completed online, printed and faxed to your financial advisor, our Investment Broker at ScotiaMcLeod, and SPHHF. Click here for the Donation of Shares form. (Please note the form also can be printed blank and completed by hand).
Donor Stories
This sentiment expressed by Commander Peter Chance, Royal Canadian Navy, one of our hospital’s longtime supporters, is one that we know many others share. As a well respected veteran, Cmdr. Chance’s experiences spanned from service in the prewar Volunteer Reserve to 32 years in the Permanent Force, including commanding two warships in the 1950s. Today he continues to serve our community by supporting organizations like the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation, for which we are very grateful. We salute Cmdr. Chance and honour those who have served or serve today in the Canadian Forces.
