Sunday July 7, 2019. Festivities begin at 1pm.

Yes, you can help. Donate today!

Support your favorite team. Help us beat last year’s fundraising total of $32,000!

Location: Beacon Avenue, between 5th and 3rd Street.

Join us! And be part of this ZANY annual event

This year’s benefactor is the Shoreline Medical Society’s Youth Clinic. This high-octane, fun-packed afternoon is not for the faint of heart and guaranteed to please all in the family! This year, 14 teams, 5 racers in each (4 pushing, 1 in the bed) will compete to see who can push a REAL hospital bed for one full block in the fastest time. Teams are encouraged to dress in costumes, partake in friendly rivalry and display copious amounts of team spirit for this annual community event.

On the big day, we need huge crowds to cheer on the racers. Beacon Avenue will be closed between 5th and 3rd streets to allow for spectators, the judging stage, registration/information tents, a Family Fun Zone, Food Trucks and room for our very own Bed Races Pit Crew.

Enjoy full festival atmosphere and look forward to seeing you there supporting your favourite team!

Help us beat last year’s fundraising total of $32,000

The Youth Clinic’s team-based service model of care involves family physicians, mental health counsellors and a child psychiatrist. Doctors make timely referrals to in-house specialists and collaborate with many partners, including the Ministry of Child & Family Development, the Foundry-Victoria, School District 63, Sidney by the Sea Rotary, Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation and several community members to ensure youth are receiving quality care.

Register a team

Sorry, sold out!

Registration opens April 15th until all 14 spots are confirmed and paid in full.

14 teams, 5 racers in each (4 pushing, 1 in the bed) will compete to see who can push a REAL hospital bed for one full block in the fastest time. Teams are encouraged to dress in costumes, partake in friendly rivalry and display copious amounts of team spirit for this annual community event.

Each team will run at least twice. This is a physically challenging event so keep this in mind and let prospective team members know. Each registered team must have a mandatory of 5 people, plus 2 alternates. One team member will ride in the bed and four team members will push a REAL hospital bed for one block.

Two teams compete at a time. The objective is to race as fast as you can. The race scores for your first two heats will be combined to determine who will move onto the quarter finals. So fast, fast, fast is GOOD, but maintain control while going fast is BETTER!

Bring your own cheering section. Bring along your family, friends, and co-workers to work the crowd in support of your team. A cheering audience is a good way to pump up your team’s adrenalin!

Team Captains: A Team Captain is to be appointed by each registered team. The Team Captain with be the team’s liaison with the Bed Races Event Coordinator. The Team Captain will be required to ensure all team members have viewed the Bed Races on Beacon Safety Videos prior to race day. Videos will be made available approximately two weeks before the event day.

The day of the bed races. ALL team members need to sign-in at the registration table by 12:30pm. Then our volunteers will organize each team for the Costume Parade which starts at 1:00pm. After the Costume Parade, teams will be staged for their first qualifying heat.

Watch out for last year’s returning champions. CCM Construction Bed Heads were first time entrants and cleaned up in all prize categories last year! Not only did they win Fastest Bed on Beacon, they were the Fundraising Champions, raising over $6,700 in donations entitling them to the BROB’s coveted race Ted’vantage. CCM has the experience and the rumour is they are practicing weekly in the lane in front of their building. We also have heard that each team member has been running laps to build up their stamina and going to HITT classes to get limbered up before the July 7th race day!
