Our 2022 Donor Tea was a chance not just to thank donors, but also to give feedback to them about the successes that their donations have enabled. After two very challenging years at the hospital it was fascinating to hear from a panel of experts from SPH and Island Health. They shared some of the specific challenges that the Covid-19 pandemic presented, as well as the approaches taken to tackle them. We heard about Long-term Care, the Emergency Department, the Operating Rooms and Surgical Daycare. One message that came through clearly was the huge importance of donor support at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital and how much staff there felt connected to the community and valued throughout the pandemic.

We recorded the speakers for those who were not in attendance. Towards the end of the session there was an opportunity for questions from the floor. If the audio is not clear those questions answered were:

  1. What is the number one problem with the recruitment of doctors? Is it financial?
  2. Give us an example of an innovative program that would entice new doctors.
  3. If some restrictions on foreign trained doctors were lifted would it help the situation?
